The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has created a spike in the number of communities facing food insecurity. Even with businesses, organizations, and schools reopening, many communities are still struggling with low access to affordable and nutritious foods. According to an analysis study from Feeding America’s findings on the 2020 & 2021 Impact of the Coronavirus on Food Insecurity, “many people who have been most impacted by the pandemic were food insecure or at risk of food insecurity before COVID-19 and are facing greater hardship since COVID-19.”

One of our partner organizations that have been providing services to combat food insecurity in Prince George’s County and Howard County is LindaBen Foundation, Inc., a grassroots nonprofit that provides services to the homeless and underserved communities in Maryland.

In May, LindaBen Foundation Inc. received a free refrigerator through Community Forklift’s Community Building Blocks (CBB) Program, which distributes free materials to nonprofit organizations for projects that serve the community.

“THANK YOU SO MUCH! As you can see, it’s been put to good use to help in our food rescue & feeding efforts.”

Annabelle Beavan, Founder of LindaBen Foundation, Inc.

The LindaBen Foundation aims to support Title I public schools and has partnered with the City of New Carrollton to distribute food to students and families through its Adopt-A-School Program. The donated refrigerator is currently being used to store perishable food during their regular food distribution. Annabelle Beavan, Founder of LindaBen Foundation, Inc., sent us pictures of the fully stocked refrigerator and said: “THANK YOU SO MUCH! As you can see, it’s been put to good use to help in our food rescue & feeding efforts.”

LindaBen Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization founded in 2020 during the height of the coronavirus pandemic. Founder Annabelle Beavan created the organization in the loving memory of her parents and those who suffer from homelessness, poverty, severe mental health issues, and addiction. Visit the LindaBen Foundation website to find out more about their initiatives.

Every donation and purchase helps us lift up local communities through reuse. Community Forklift turns the construction waste stream into a resource stream for communities in the DC region – by keeping perfectly good items out of the landfill, preserving historical materials, providing low-cost building supplies, and creating local green jobs.
