At our First Friday event on June 7, Congressman Glenn Ivey (MD-04) presented Community Forklift with a $750,000 check through the Community Project Funding (CPF) grant program. The CPF program allows Members of Congress to provide greater input in how the Federal Government directs funding within their own districts. The program awards grants to local governments or eligible non-profits for projects that support the health, safety, and economic well-being of local residents.

“Community Forklift builds up our community – figuratively and literally,“ Congressman Ivey said. “From bathroom & kitchen fixtures to windows and doors, they keep things out of the landfill and repurpose them for people’s homes.”

Congressman Ivey’s office awarded Community Forklift’s CPF grant in 2023 to significantly expand our capacity in diverting home and building materials from the waste stream in Maryland’s District 4 and beyond. Funds from this grant are enhancing the impacts of our reuse nonprofit by enabling us to:

  • Hire a third truck crew to provide even more free, convenient pickups of donated materials from local residents and businesses.
  • Purchase an electric van to expand our free delivery service of materials donated to residents in need and community organizations.
  • Provide green workforce training opportunities.
  • Invest in technology, training, and staff to process reusable materials efficiently.

“The funds from this Community Project Funding grant represent the largest federal government investment in our organization’s history,” said Community Forklift Executive Director Trey Davis. “In a word, it will be transformative – and we are deeply grateful.”
