YARD SALE runs June 21 through August 16 at Art Enables and incorporates upcycled salvaged materials from Community Forklift

Art Enables resident artist Eileen Schofield loves a yard sale find. “I go to yard sales on Saturdays. I’ve been doing that every Saturday I can for years. That’s my favorite thing to do,” she says.

Starting this Saturday, June 21, and running through August 16, Eileen brings her passion for yard sales to an art show she co-curated at the local nonprofit art studio and gallery Art Enables.

“I’m an expert on yard sales, I know what they have. I decided what should go in this one,” Eileen explains. “The things in it look beautiful. They’re so beautiful, and nice, and colorful. We made things different by painting on dishes, shirts, and other things like that. We turned it into artwork.”

Dedicated to amplifying the creative careers of artists with disabilities, Art Enables provides a platform for resident artists to develop, exhibit, and sell their work. YARD SALE includes classic yard sale ephemera — housewares, t-shirts, vinyl records, books, even furniture — that has been upcycled and made into one-of-a-kind functional art by the Art Enables artists.

Eileen is a positive and gregarious personality who values the community at Art Enables and is always talking with her fellow artists about their work and welcoming guests to the gallery. “People can come and look at this yard sale, and they can feel joyful about it,” she says.

Art Enables sourced books, records, a lamp, a chair, tile, an end table, and more materials used throughout the show at Community Forklift’s nonprofit reuse warehouse. The materials were provided free through our Community Building Blocks (CBB) program, which supplies free items to other nonprofits, community groups, and schools.

The opening reception for the YARD SALE show is this Saturday, June 21, from 5pm to 7pm. RSVP on the Art Enables website to stop by and claim your own unique yard sale find! The show will be on view through August 16 and the gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, 10am to 4pm and by appointment.
