Community Forklift’s Donations Team and truck crew deliver hope and help for residents in need throughout the DC region. We need your financial support to help offset the cost of the community services they provide!
At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, we launched a free delivery service for households receiving free materials from Community Forklift through our Home Essentials Program (HELP). This program provides free building materials and home goods to individuals with limited income.
Many of our HELP customers are unable to pick up and transport a bulky refrigerator or dining room set from our reuse warehouse. With our convenient and reliable delivery service, our HELP customers can easily receive these essential materials that help them live safely and comfortably in their homes.
“This delivery service is a huge benefit to those that we assist, many of whom do not have reliable transportation and all of whom are people in need,” says Susana, Community Forklift’s Community Giving Manager. “The last thing that we want is for the people that we help to have to pay money to rent a truck or to not be able to participate in the HELP program due to an issue with transportation.”
We recently delivered a free electric stove to a family of two seniors in Montgomery County. The family — one of whom was ill with a heart condition — did not have the means or ability to haul a large appliance. With our donation and delivery of a stove, they are able to save money and eat healthy by cooking at home.
Since launching our free delivery service, we’ve provided over 360 free deliveries of large appliances, furniture, and home repair materials throughout the DC area. We completed 113 deliveries in 2023 alone and after adding an additional truck and truck crew to our team, we plan to do many more this year.
This important work does not happen without a cost. While sales from donated materials in our reuse warehouse go a long way in supporting our operations, we rely on the support of our community to help offset the costs to run these programs.
