Community Forklift bridges the gap for communities who need access to affordable home and building materials and our neighbors with excess. We also bridge the gap for our environment by saving tons of reusable materials each year from landfills.
During this giving season, our “Bridge the Gap” campaign will focus on the many ways that Community Forklift bridges access and resources by supporting vibrant neighborhoods and a healthier environment. We’ll also highlight the significant cost of this vital work, and our need for partners like you to bridge the gap in funding for our reuse nonprofit.
What are some other ways that we act as a bridge?
- For our neighbors in need who cannot afford the cost of new or used building materials,
- For individuals with barriers to employment who want workforce training and a good job,
- For nonprofits and local partners who need access to free materials for projects that serve the greater community,
- For neighbors looking to learn skills in reuse and sustainability,
- For artists, entrepreneurs, and small businesses who rely on affordable reusable materials to support their enterprises, and
- For our community who cannot otherwise access historical, one-of-a-kind, quality materials.
Yet, our work is not sustained through material donations alone. As a sustainable enterprise, the revenue we generate through our store covers just 80% of our expenses. The 20% gap between that is met by contributions and grants from donors who invest in our mission.
Through this campaign, our goal is to raise $75,000 to allow us to reduce barriers to affordable home repair, provide good green jobs, and make reuse accessible for all. Please bridge the gap for Community Forklift by making a donation today!

With a $20,000 2:1 match from a generous donor, your donation’s impact will be tripled if:
- you are making a financial donation for the first time,
- you last donated in 2022 or before, or
- you donated in 2023 and increase your donation this year.
Every time you donate or shop at Community Forklift, you’re helping us lift up local communities through reuse. We turn the construction waste stream into a resource stream for communities in the DC region – by keeping perfectly good items out of the landfill, preserving historical materials, providing low-cost building supplies, and creating local green jobs.
